Fortunately for Foothill Communities - No Mudslides with This Storm

October 14th Wed - the brunt of this recent storm was to the north of us. Mudslides were reported in the Santa Cruz Mountains, which also had recent fires. Monterey,CA received over 6" of rain in a 24 hour period and had a major electrical power relay station fail, leaving over 225,000 homes without power.

The foothill communities of La Crescenta, Glendale, Sierra Madre and Altadena had spent the time before the storm arrived, with making and placing sandbags, a community wide effort and the streets had k-rail cement highway barriers placed on them to help direct any mud/debris flows away from property and homes. Fortunately, with this first storm, at least, they didn't have mass mud/debris flows. This was a warm storm for us,it felt rather tropical, we got the leftover from a tropical depression off the Pacific. The storm that they got up north, was the one that packed the punch.

The rain for us, just came down steadily and slowly. The LA Basin received a little over 2.5", which was half of what the meteorologists had predicted.

I'm grateful for the rain and I'm grateful that the mountainsides stayed put after this storm.
