Swallows Have Returned & Oso Lake Celebration

The swallows have returned to our neighborhood. They fly over the hillside in the morning and at dusk, devouring the little gnats that fill the skies. They are a welcome sight, as it truly means spring is here. (They celebrated Swallows Day in San Juan Capistrano on Mar 30th.)

About a month ago, they put two buoys (?) out on Oso Lake, I assumed that it was to be used by the boys scouts when they canoe across the lake to dock and rest and then go the rest of the way in shore. Interesting, I don't know whether it is just the time of year or whether there is more to those buoys, but the birds don't seem to be coming up to the Lake much at all.

Today is Water Celebration Day at the Lake, with tours and conservation talks and demonstrations hosted by the Boys Scouts and the cities of Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo. At least they can do it this year, as the water level is up right now on the Lake. (Last year they had to cancel it in Sept due to the really low water level and drought conditions.) No beach showing at all on the far side of the Lake and its only down about 4 feet from the high water mark. Its a lot cooler today than yesterday's high of 84 degrees, lots of cloud cover this morning. Dave and I awoke early again - 4 am, in time to watch the almost full moon setting into the mist to the west/southwest of us - very pretty. We're still a bit confused, time wise, but getting more in sync with this time zone with each passing day.
