Esperanza Fire Total

The Esperanza Fire that started on Oct 26th and was contained by Oct 31st - killed 5 firefighters, burned for 6 days, burning a total of 40,200 acres, destroyed 34 homes and 20 outbuildings and cost $9.9 million to put out. It was started by arson and a man has been charged with arson - yes, he has a name and a story. No, I will not repeat his name or his story - no fame, no notoriety - just due process of law and justice preserved.

I found a website that listed the US 10 year National Average of acres burned by fires, which is 6,450,714 acres. This year, 2006, through Nov 1st, we have had 9,468,959 acres burned in the US.
