Cranes on the Lake This Week
The water has receded in the Lake, leaving a 6 foot stretch of beach all the way around. The weather in the mornings has been cool and misty, morning low clouds and fog that burns off by afternoon - what we call 'June Gloom'. This year, 'June Gloom' actually started in mid May. The combination of the weather and the beach have attracted a flock of gray and white cranes, long necked, scissor billed, water birds to come up to the Lake for breakfast. On the far side of the Lake, the side I can see from our house - I counted 22 yesterday, working the sand, at the water's edge on the far side of the Lake, dining on insects and roosting in the trees.
